You guys are killing me! How long are you going to be on a "diet"? Food is essential to good traveling. I think $250 per day is insufficient, given your average sunk costs; $50 for a rental car, $40 in gas, and $75-100 in accommodation. This leaves you more or less $50-75 to feed a family of 4 per day. You might be able to get away with this if you are cooking at home, but food on the road is not cheap! Plus, no contingencies for any type of fun! Please give yourselves a break!!!
