Paris and Dante would be happy driving directly from hotel swimming pool to hotel swimming pool--skipping all the sites and attractions in between. Yes, they thought the Grand Canyon was "cool, but sort of small," and they liked the St. Louis Arch, but "it was so hot in that city." But the hotel swimming pools are "so fun" "the best," "my favorite part of the trip." I now realize why some families just park it at one hotel and spend their days at the pool.
If you asked my kids what they liked most about our Route 66 trip, they wouldn't say riding the Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica Pier. Or traveling to the top of the Grand Arch in St. Louis. Or even looking out over the Grand Canyon. I can assure you they would say the hotel swimming pools.
